RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting of the Members at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in the Auditorium of the Rumford Town Hall.

Following a short business meeting with the election of officers and directors for year 2014-15, Dr. Stanley Howe of Bethel will speak on the “History of the Grange in Maine, and Its Impact on Agriculture of the Region.”

Howe has served as executive director of the Bethel Historical Society from 1974 to 2010, after which he assumed the role of associate director/director of research of the Bethel Society from 2010 to 2013. He is now retired and is executive director emeritus of that society.

Howe has been an active member of the State Grange for many years, and his presentation will give today’s citizens a broader knowledge of the Grange’s function in Maine’s agricultural history and its importance to the region’s economy.

Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

The meeting is open to the public, and new members are always welcome.

Those attending the meeting are asked to enter and exit the building via the River Street Entrance (at the Police Station entrance).
