Topic: New Maine national park
FARMINGTON — Western Maine Audubon Society will present its monthly program on “Creating Katahdin Woods and Waters National Park” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at UMF, C23, Roberts.
There is no conservation topic more hotly controversial than the idea of a new Maine national park. Speaking at this program will be Lucas St. Clair, president of Elliotsville Plantation, Inc., the organization heading that effort and in charge of the management of the Quimby lands in Maine.
What would be the nature and boundaries of the national park he envisions? What would be its impact on current traditions of use? How would this be good — or bad — for Maine?
This program is free and open to the public.
