AUBURN — Eric Samson, a lifelong Androscoggin County resident, has announced his bid to run for county sheriff in next November’s election.

Samson graduated from Lewiston High School, attended the University of Maine at Augusta, and received his certifications through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.

He has been employed with the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department since 1991 as a corrections officer, Transport Division supervisor, programs director, the department’s chief deputy and most recently as a patrol deputy. Samson has also worked as a part-time patrolman for the Mechanic Falls Police Department.

Samson has held elected positions within the Sheriff’s Department union. He is past president of Council 93 AFSCME 1828-04 having served for eight years, and served multiple terms on the union’s Executive Board.

Samson owns and manages a commercial property and previously owned and managed rental properties in the area and co-owned a small business.

Samson has served two terms on the Auburn City Council, and was the mayor’s representative on the School Committee and the joint Lewiston/Auburn Council Committee. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp., Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, Lewiston/Auburn 911 Committee and Community Concepts.

His memberships and associations include the Kora Shriners of Lewiston, Tranquil Lodge No. 29, A.F. & A.M., Auburn, as well as Sacred Heart Parish.

Samson, his wife, Holly, daughter, Madison, and son, Camren, reside at 28 Windemere Way.
