LIVERMORE FALLS — The area’s Memorial Day Parade Committee is looking for participants to take part in the parade on May 26 and volunteers to place flags on veterans’ graves.

The parade theme is “Honor and Remember Operation Overlord 70th Anniversary of D-Day WWII,” according to committee member Don Simoneau.

On June 6, 1944, D-Day began with the landing of 155,000 allied troops on the beaches of Normandy, he said in a release.

“We welcome and invite all veterans young and old to step into the parade anywhere along the route or ride on our trailer/trailers,” he said.

The committee asks that any and all Iraq and Afghanistan veterans march in the parade in either uniform or street clothes.

Distribution of grave flags for Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay will be done on Saturday, May 17, for the more than 45 local cemeteries and over 1,600 local veterans’ graves.

Veterans and members of the public can meet at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on Reynolds Avenue in Livermore Falls to help place the flags.

Parade lineup on May 26 will be at 9 a.m. The parade will depart at 10 a.m. from Memco parking lot on Main Street in Jay and travel into Livermore Falls.

The committee will have a full lineup of the parade and Memorial Day programs after the 6 p.m. meeting May 13 at the Legion Hall.

Besides veterans, the committee would like to have military trucks, children on bikes, Scouts, 4-H club members, school clubs, sports teams and members of ATV and snowmobile clubs take part in the parade.

Members would also like to have church groups, civic leaders and public safety representatives, including firefighters, emergency medical services, police, forestry and wardens, involved.

Organizations with theme floats or trailers are also invited to participate.
