AUGUSTA (AP) — A new report from the Maine Economic Growth Council and Maine Development Council gives the state high marks for air and water quality.
The report gives the state gold stars for air and water based on 27 economic, environmental and community indicators that reflect the quality of life in Maine. The report notes, among other things, that Maine has made progress in reducing the number of days of poor air quality for sensitive groups.
Maine Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Patricia Aho said a healthy environment is vital both to Maine’s people and businesses that depend on the state’s resources.
