RANGELEY — A local man is accused of threatening to kill his landlord and police late Friday night, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Monday.

Officer Ron Wood arrested Michael Ford, 43, of Rangeley on a misdemeanor charge of terrorizing, he said Monday.

Leahy had been dealing with Ford and a landlord of an apartment building for approximately a week and thought the issue was resolved.

The landlord, who lives in an apartment in the building, came home Friday to find Ford at the top of the stairs. Ford told the landlord he had a gun and was going to blow his head off, Leahy said.

When Wood arrived, Ford also threatened to kill him, he said.

Rangeley police and two agents with the U.S. Border Patrol broke through the door to Ford’s apartment to get in when he wouldn’t respond, Leahy said.

The apartment was searched, and no gun was found, he said.

Border Patrol agents confiscated 70 marijuana plants between about 6 to 18 inches tall and related growing equipment, Leahy said.

Wood and the agents were assisted at the scene by Leahy and Rangeley Sgt. Jared Austin.

Ford’s bail is $500 cash or a pretrial contract on the threatening charge, a corrections officer at the Franklin County Jail in Farmington said.

He also has a probation hold on him and won’t be released from the Franklin County Jail in Farmington until that issue is resolved.
