PORTLAND — A graduate and former star athlete at Maine’s only Roman Catholic college preparatory high school for girls and her NFL quarterback husband have established a $125,000 scholarship endowment.

Sarah Marshall Ryan graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in 2003 and helped lead the school to a pair of state basketball championships.

She went on to play point guard at Boston College, where she met her husband, current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

Marshall Ryan said in a statement that her days at McAuley “were some of the best years of my life.”

The first $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman next fall and will be based upon financial need, academic excellence, community involvement and participation in sports.
