Mtn. Valley 5, Mt. Blue 0

BETHEL — Coyote Freeman made 10 saves Thursday afternoon, leading Mountain Valley to a 5-0 shutout of Mt. Blue in Class B KVAC boys’ lacrosse.

The game was played at Gould Academy due to wet field conditions in Rumford.

Mountain Valley (1-0) scored two goals in a 19-second span to take command late in the first period. Tucker Phelps scored the first unassisted, with Dalton Milledge setting up the encore by Mike Theriault on a nice pass from the top of the box.

Theriault and Phelps each scored again in the fourth period to put away the win for the Falcons.

Dakota Jacques scored a second-period goal via Corbin Arsenault, supplying a 3-0 halftime advantage. Arsenault finished with two assists.

Leo Flannery stopped 23 shots for Mt. Blue (0-1), serving up a scoreless third quarter.

Baseball

St. Dom’s 4, Spruce Mountain 1

AUBURN —Mitch Lorenz took a shutout into the seventh inning Thursday and surrendered only three hits over the route in St. Dom’s 4-1 MVC baseball win over Spruce Mountain.

Lorenz allowed only an unearned run in the seventh when Scottie Hall reached on an error for the Phoenix (0-1). John McKenna later delivered an RBI single.

St. Dom’s (2-0) scored two runs in the first and two more in the fourth.

Mike Richard singled and Mike Bryant was hit by a pitch to start the opening rally. They advanced on a double steal and scored on a hit by Andrew Marcous.

Three Spruce Mountain errors led to the fourth-inning output. Lucas Preble worked five strong innings for the Phoenix, and John McKenna relieved in the sixth. They combined to allow only five hits.

Richard and McKenna each led his team with two hits in the contest.
