Coaches: Tom Menendez (ninth year) and Norm Thombs (eighth year)
Last year’s results: Sixth in MVC, 14th in Class C
Returning letter-winners: Seniors — Ben Bailey (400, 800), Stewart Buzzell (distance), Marcques Houston (400, jumps), Luke Thombs (distance); Juniors — Casey Clement (middle distance), Jeremy Marsh (throws), Sherman Spears (throws), Robbie Spencer (throws); Sophomores — Jon Marsh (sprints), Nick Menice (throws), Luke Thombs (distance).
Key losses: None
Promising newcomers: Dalton Sawtelle (throws), Brad Arsenault (100, 400), Adam Hayes (race walk).
Team outlook: The Mustangs essentially return intact from a strong 2013 campaign. Houston, who was still recovering from surgery a year ago, was second in the 400 meters at Class C states, He also shared in a third-place finish with Bailey, Buzzell and Clement in the 4×400. Monmouth again fields a large team for the size of its school and should contend for a top-five or even top-three finish at the MVC meet.
