PITTSFIELD, Maine (AP) — Police say a hearse transporting a body and casket for a Maine funeral home overturned multiple times after its driver apparently fell asleep behind the wheel on Interstate 95 in the town of Pittsfield.

The Public Safety Department spokesman says the driver, 55-year-old Michael Kelley of Bar Harbor, was being treated for serious injuries at Sebasticook Hospital in Pittsfield following the crash reported at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

His injuries were not life-threatening.

The hearse belongs to the Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home in the city of Ellsworth. Following the crash, the body and casket were moved to another hearse. The northbound side of the interstate was reduced to one lane.
