NEW SHARON — A child called a family member at about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to report two unresponsive adults in the home at 545 Farmington Falls Road, police said Wednesday.
The family member called Franklin County emergency dispatchers to report the situation, Sgt. Mathew Casavant of the Maine State Police said. One of the adults was taken by NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said.
A search warrant executed by Maine State Police turned up evidence of intravenous drug use, he said.
“It is suspected the recreational drug being used was heroin but additional investigation is ongoing,” Casavant said. State police are investigating to confirm the cause of the overdose as well as the source of the illegal drugs, he said.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services was contacted and the children in the home were to be placed with a family member temporarily, Casavant said.
New Sharon Fire Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Farmington Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency also responded to the scene.
