RUMFORD — Black Mountain Ski Resort is using two of its old buildings for starting races and housing snow-making equipment.
Marketing director Paige Carter said the race start building is the old ski patrol building at the top of the mountain.
“This is the first time we’ve had occasion to take one of our old buildings and put it to use as something else,” Carter said. “The old ski patrol building was getting pretty old, so we ended up building a new patrol building, thanks to volunteers. The old building was just sitting there, so we figured we’d put it to good use.”
The old tower shack, formerly near the end of the T-Bar lift, is now a valve house to house snow-making equipment.
“We don’t use the T-Bar lift regularly anymore,” Carter said, “so it made sense to take that building and use it for something else.
“It’s really exciting to be able to use these buildings for something rather than them sitting there on the mountain,” Carter said.
