FARMINGTON — The tenant of a Whittier Road home was treated for smoke inhalation Wednesday evening after a bag of trash in the garage caught fire and caused smoke damage to the garage and attached house.

Shane Kemp, the tenant at 697 Whittier Road, tried to get the trash bag out of the garage and suffered smoke inhalation, Farmington Fire and Rescue Lt. Tim “TD” Hardy said Thursday. Kemp was treated at the scene by NorthStar paramedics. Hardy was not sure if he went on to the hospital on his own.

The cause of the smoke was carelessly discarded wood ashes, Hardy said.

There was no fire. It was mostly smoke that caused the damage, he said. The department ventilated the garage and home.

The call came in at 6:45 p.m.

The home is owned Lawrence Sherman and is insured, he said.
