NEWRY — Sunday River Ski Resort will celebrate Maine Maple Sunday with an entire weekend of events, resort spokesperson Darcy Morse said.

The resort has been participating in Maine Maple Sunday for the last three or four years after their Sugaring House was constructed at the bottom of the Sundance Trail on South Ridge.

“After we built the Sugaring House, it became a great success with the skiers around here,” Morse said. “People had the chance to tour the house and see how the maple syrup we sell is made. It’s a little rustic cabin, and in the spring, when the smoke is coming from the chimney, it’s quite a sight to see.”

Morse said eventually the retail outlets and restaurants at the ski resort offered to use the products made at the Sugaring House and sell it, which led to the resort teaming up with the Sugaring House to participate in Maine Maple Sunday.

The Sugaring House will be open for tours Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and there will be free tastings of candy, cotton candy and syrup made at the premises.

Resort restaurants, including the Foggy Goggle and the South Ridge Food Court, will use maple syrup in their appetizers, entrees and desserts in recognition of Maine Maple Sunday, she said.

“So far, the Maine Maple Weekend has been an absolute success, and a great addition to our busy spring weekend,” Morse said.
