NEW VINEYARD — A dispute between people shoveling snow and a plow truck driver ended with a punctured tire Thursday morning, Franklin County Lt. David Rackliffe said.
“It is clear that everybody has had enough of the winter and the cold,” he said.
Doug Nile, 41, of Anson was plowing Barker Road under a town contract with his family’s company, Nile Logging and Leasing of New Vineyard. Nile lifted the wing of the truck before getting to a driveway that had just been shoveled, but he left the plow down, Rackliffe said. A little bit of snow was left at the end of the driveway, he said.
The people started shoveling the snow back into the road. Nile stopped the truck and told them they couldn’t put the snow in the road, Rackliffe said.
Nile told deputies that one of the people ducked under the truck with something in his hand and Nile thought the person had punctured a tire, Rackliffe said.
Air could be heard coming from the tire, he said.
Nile went back to a garage to change the tire and the Maine State Police Commercial Enforcement Unit followed him. The truck had been stopped minutes before the incident for a violation and the truck’s tires were fine, Rackliffe said.
He said a representative of the state police unit called deputies to say he saw a puncture mark in the tire which appeared to be from a Phillips screwdriver.
The incident remained under investigation, Rackliffe said.
