HANOVER — The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police continued to investigate a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a 58-year-old Mexico man Friday.

Initial reports from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Arland Burgess Jr., 58, of Mexico was driving his 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo westbound on Main Street in Hanover when he apparently hit a slushy section of the road and slid in front of a fully loaded log truck driven by David Abbott, 29, of West Paris.

Burgess was killed on impact, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said.

The accident reconstruction team was still analyzing data obtained from the initial investigation into the accident, Maine State Trooper Angela Porter said Monday afternoon.

“They’ve been looking at scene pre-impact and post-impact, and trying to decipher what other things may have caused the accident,” Porter said.

Jeff Degroot, a Maine trooper with the commercial vehicle unit, said that, while the investigation into the accident is still ongoing, based on witness accounts there was “nothing to indicate that speed was an issue with either vehicle.”
