1922 – 2014
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Nelson O. Jewell, 92, of Effingham, N.H., passed away Wednesday, March 12, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H.
He was born in Madrid on Jan. 29, 1922, the son of the late Otis and Thelma (Sargent) Jewell of Madrid. Nelson grew up in Maine with several relatives and later moved to Malden, Mass., where he attended Boston Trade School, studying automobile mechanics. He worked as a mechanic for Brodie Industrial Trucks in Woburn, Mass., for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
Nelson lived in Saugus, Mass., for several years, before moving to Effingham, N.H., in 2011 to live with his son, Gary, and his family.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp in Maine, traveling with Ruby, snowmobiling, gardening, going to the library and reading. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe.
Nelson was predeceased by his wife, Ruby (Wormstead) Jewell, and is survived by his sons, Gary Jewell and his wife, Kimberly, of Effingham, N.H., and Richard E. Jewell and his wife, LeeAnn, of Lawrence, Mass.; as well as his five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
