MEXICO — The Police Department will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. March 26 at its headquarters to announce a program to check on housebound residents, Chief Roy Hodsdon said.

Project Senior Watch: Taking Care of Seniors As They Have Taken Care Of Us will place all interested senior citizens in town on a list that allows police officers to check on their safety and well-being via phone calls and periodic visits.

Hodsdon said any housebound resident qualifies for the program; it’s not limited to the elderly.

“We would place calls to whoever is on the list and check in on their well-being every day, and especially during bad weather,” Hodsdon said. “We’ve had an idea like this in the works since the fall, and we’ve been working to implement it.”

Prior to the meeting, officers will visit Grand View Apartments to see if any individuals want to sign up for the program.

Applications are available at the Town Office or the Police Department. Applications will also be distributed at the March 26 meeting.

There will be another Neighborhood Watch meeting at 6 p.m. March 19 to select signs and hear presentations from the Mexico Explorers.
