WARREN — Police plan to charge a Maine State Prison inmate with murder after the stabbing death of another inmate Friday.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a release the death of inmate Micah Boland, 37, of Knox County, was classified as a homicide Saturday by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

Detectives believe 35-year-old Richard Stahursky is responsible for Boland’s death around 4:40 p.m. Friday, McCausland said.

“There is more work on the case, but after consulting with the Attorney General’s Office, we anticipate Stahursky will be charged with murder early next week,” McCausland said.

Boland had served six years of a 22-year sentence for gross sexual assault. Stahursky was serving multiple sentences for a number of convictions.

An autopsy determined Boland died from multiple stab wounds, but no other information was released on the cause of death or where in the prison the stabbing took place.

When Boland was convicted in 2008 of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl it was the first application in Maine of Jessica’s Law, which imposes tougher sentences on people convicted of some sex crimes involving children, according to The Associated Press.
