Yard sale benefit Girls State program

PARIS — A yard sale to benefit the Girls State program will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Foster-Carroll American Legion Post 72, 12 Church St.

The lunch counter will be open.

Community snowshoe hike

WEST PARIS — A community snowshoe hike will celebrate the Maine woods.

Children accompanied by an adult, and all community members, are invited to a snowshoe hike at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, on trails behind the Agnes Gray School. Children and adults who are new to the sport will be able to borrow snowshoes at the school, and get help fastening the bindings. There will be games for children to play on snowshoes, and the Agnes Gray PTO will provide hot chocolate and refreshments to all.

Saturday’s hike is hosted by the West Paris “Celebrate the Maine Woods” partnership: The Agnes Gray School, The West Paris Public Library, the West Paris Historical Society and the Maurice G. Benson Conservation Forest. This group has joined the state wide, year-long collaboration to promote the understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of Maine’s forests.

Card-making class aids fuel fund

WATERFORD — Dianne Morse-Leonard, a Stampin’ Up demonstrator, will hold a card-making party at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Wilkins Community House on Plummer Hill in Waterford Flat.

The event is a fundraiser for the Waterford Congregational Church’s Fuel Fund. All proceeds will go to the Fuel Fund which helps Waterford residents who have an emergency need for fuel.

Dianne will make available five different designs and participants will make 10 cards for $25. Scrapbook page options are available. No prior experience is needed to make great hand-stamped cards or scrap book pages.

Western Maine Knitting Guild

PARIS — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, to carpool to Doreen Simmons’ home for a potluck luncheon.

Bring an item to share for the luncheon.

A tour of the barn and visit with the baby lambs will take place before the lunch.

Bring a knitting item to work on.

New members are always invited to attend the meetings.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Feb. 24 were as follows: first, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second/third tie, Cynthia and Bill Clifford with Les Buzzell and Paul Sherman.

Honey Bee Club meets March 8

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

Speaker will be commercial bee keeper Tony Bachelder. Topic will be feeding bees in the winter, and ordering nucs. The public is welcome.

Head Custodian Chinese Auction

PARIS — The 10th annual SAD 17 Head Custodian Chinese Auction is Saturday, March 8, in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School cafeteria. It is their largest fundraiser and the funds are for scholarships the organization awards to any student furthering their education. They have awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships.

There are hundreds of items to win including ice fishing traps, a truck cab organizer, Christmas decorations, a handmade knit sweater, candles, handmade quilts, children’s toys, gift cards to many area businesses and more. Tickets are 90 for $20, 40 for $10 and 20 for $5.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and the auction starts at 1 p.m. There will be a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, grab bags, hot dogs, chips, soda and grilled cheese during the auction.
