NEWRY — Multiple charges are expected to be filed against a female suspect in connection to a spree of break-ins in the Portland area and at the Sunday River Ski Resort. 

Oxford County Deputy Peter Casey said a “fast-acting” female suspect was detained for further investigation by Maine State Police on Friday afternoon. The woman is suspected of breaking into homes and vehicles in Falmouth, Portland, Westbrook, Yarmouth and Newry, Casey said. She is currently the sole suspect in the case, he said.

“I think we’re looking at upward of 15 circumstances, between motor vehicle burglaries and residential hits,” Casey said.

“She is proficient in what she’s going after, and she’s quick moving,” Casey continued. 

Investigators started looking into the case after at least five vehicles were reportedly broken into at the Sunday River Ski Resort on Thursday afternoon. 

Within 48 hours, investigators from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police and Westbrook and Yarmouth police departments were able to close the case and charges are pending against the suspect, Casey said. 

“We’re very confident that we have the person responsible for this,” he said. 

He said efforts of other members of law enforcement, including George Cayer and Matthew Baker of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, and Ron Turnick, Kyle Tilsley, Jason Wing and Dan Hanson of the Maine State Police, were instrumental in bringing the case to a conclusion. 

“Without the effort of these guys, it would be likely that this case would still be outstanding,” Casey said. 

Maine State Police Sgt. Tilsley is heading the investigation, Lt. Walter Grzyb said Friday night.
