PERU — A group of volunteers with Friends of Peru Elementary School will provide an evening of activities and snacks for children ages 7 to 11 on Valentine’s Day.

It’s part of Family Fun Fridays and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Peru Elementary School, coordinator Gail True said.

“We started the Family Fun Fridays group in October as a fun way to raise money for the Peru Elementary School and as a means for local kids to make new friends and have some fun,” she said Friday. “We have different theme nights, such as dance nights, bingo nights, karaoke nights and unplugged game night, which is where we play a variety of boards games.”

Admission to the Valentine’s Day program is $5 per child; or $1 if parents stay with their children. The cost includes food and drinks.

“One thing we do is if the parents stay with their children, they’ll receive a drop-off pass,” True said. “A drop-off pass will help eliminate the cost of a future event.”

All proceeds will be donated to Friends of Peru Elementary School to pay for heat and electricity for the former schoolhouse.

“Our primary goal is to give all money back to the Peru Elementary School,” True said. “That building currently houses a food pantry, the Girl Scouts and the Rumford Senior Citizens. If they can’t keep the heat and electricity on, the building wouldn’t be able to run the way it does,” she said.

“We figure the price for the event is inexpensive compared to a baby sitter. The cost isn’t meant to be a hardship on parents,” she said.

True has distributed fliers at local elementary schools advertising the event.

Those interested in dropping off their children and reserving a spot should call True at 650-7939.
