Kaelyn Woods of Gray-New Gloucester won the Western Maine Conference girls’ classical nordic race at Stark’s Hill in Fryeburg on Saturday.
Woods completed the 5.3K course in 19:26.1, ahead of Merriconeag’s Samantha Pierce (19:53.4) and Freeport’s Lily Johnston (19:54.1).
Keaton McEvoy was the Patriots’ next top skier, finishing 25th.
Yarmouth placed four skiers in the top 11 to take the lead after the first day with 31 points, followed by Freeport (43) and Merriconeag (45). Gray-New Gloucester (98) is sixth.
The conference championships will conclude Monday with the freestyle at Libby Hill in Gray.
Yarmouth’s Braden Becker dominated the boys’ race with a winning time of 15:03.4, more than a minute ahead of Freeport’s Elijah McCurdy (16:08.2) and Gabe Mahoney of Falmouth (16:35.9).
Gray-New Gloucester’s Paul Phillips and Eric Wilcox finished 14th and 15th respectively.
Becker led four Yarmouth skiers in the top nine to give the Clippers 22 points and the lead over Merriconeag (31) and Falmouth (46) heading into Monday’s second day.
