The latest letters to the Sun Journal from the anti-Obama, anti-liberal people are disturbing and depressing. I see an irrational expression of hatred for the president and Democrats and a misinterpretation of the facts. For example: “Liberals, along with the president, are changing moralism into socialism and paganism.” (Neil Bourgoin, Feb. 2)
In a free country, people are free to believe in socialism or paganism. There is no evidence that the president or Democrats believe in either.
When I say “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, I know I am free to view God according to my religion. I object to the constant harping from the religious right that I must accept their view of God.
That same issue of the Sun Journal had an article that stated, “Experts note that the Great Depression and the Great Recession were both preceded by surging income gaps and heedless borrowing by middle class Americans.” Both happened under Republican administrations.
Pope Frances recently said: “I ask you to ensure that people are helped by wealth and not ruled by it.”
I know people have found better, less expensive health insurance coverage under Obamacare. I am confident there will be millions more. People need and deserve health insurance, just as they need car insurance and home insurance if they own a car or a home.
For the state of Maine to deny people the opportunity for health care is a crime against humanity.
