ALLAGASH (AP) — Maine authorities have charged eight Aroostook County residents in a crackdown on illegal hunting in the region.

Seven residents of Allagash and one Palermo man were charged Thursday with various poaching offenses from hunting with a suspended license to possession of a moose killed at night.

The Maine Warden Service said the suspects are “intentional wildlife violators who display a complete disregard for our fish and game laws.”

Two of the people charged were arrested. Authorities said some of them have faced hunting offenses in the past.

Authorities said the alleged offenses “undoubtedly had an impact on local wildlife resources.”

The investigation continues and authorities said more charges are possible.
