JAY — Junior forward Deonte Ring notched a game-high 14 points in a balanced attack to lead Spruce Mountain to a 67-40 victory over Mtn. Valley in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Phoenix opened up a 26-19 halftime lead with 29 points in the third quarter. Scottie Hall contributed 11 points for Spruce Mountain.

Caleb Gauvin netted a team-leading 12 points for the Falcons (2-15) in the losing effort.

Hall-Dale 46, Oak Hill 24

WALES — Using an 11-3 first quarter run to gain control, Hall-Dale raced away to record a 46-24 rout over Oak Hill in a late-season MVC boys’ tilt Friday.

Brian Allen led the Bulldogs with a game-high 19 points. Dalton Therrien and Derek Gamage paced the Raiders (4-13) with eight points apiece.

Carrabec 62, Madison 53

MADISON — Saving enough energy for a late push, Carrabec used a 25-15 run in the final quarter to pull out a 62-53 win over Madison in another MVC boys’ matchup Friday.

Richard Layton and Levi Murray led the Cobras with 14 points each, while John Layman tallied 13 and Troy Dunphy added 10.

Jarod Miller paced the Bulldogs with 14.

Winthrop 49, Lisbon 43

LISBON — Anthony Owens sparked a 24-10 run in the fourth quarter as Winthrop pulled away to post a narrow 49-43 MVC win over Lisbon.

Owens led the Ramblers with 14 points overall, including six in that key fourth frame. Ben Allen chipped in with 10 points and seven steals.

Kendall Roy topped the Greyhounds (10-7) with a game-high 17 points, while Tucker Brannon chipped in 12.

Rangeley 35, GPC 27

RANGELEY — After trailing by eight points early, Rangeley rallied to a 35-27 victory over Greater Portland Christian in Class D boys’ basketball Friday.

Timothy White led the Lakers (3-12) with 15 points, while Mitchell Haley chipped in with eight.

Jeremiah Hammond led GPC (2-14) with 11 points. Ethan Spaulding added eight.

Winslow 85, Leavitt 57

WINSLOW — Senior guard Trevor Lovely scored his 1,000th career point on a third quarter field goal from beyond the arc to lead Winslow to an 85-57 triumph over Leavitt in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Lovely posted 33 points on 10 field goals, including five from three-point range, for the Raiders (13-3). Justin Kervin contributed 19 points for Winslow.

Senior guard Zac Goulette tossed a team-leading 16 points for the Hornets (3-13). Mitchel Davis collected 10 rebounds and 10 blocks to go along with his nine points.

Dirigo 77, Telstar 37

BETHEL — Junior forward Kaine Hutchins tagged 22 points to power Dirigo to a 77-37 victory over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Cougars (15-1) came out strong, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and taking a 37-18 lead into intermission. Sophomore guard Riley Robinson contributed 16 points and hauled down nine rebounds.

Junior forward Mike Daugherty posted a double-double for the Rebels (3-14) with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Austin Ryerson chipped in with 13 points for Telstar.

Girls’ Basketball

Oxford Hills 52, Hampden 28

SOUTH PARIS — Junior forward Anna Winslow piloted 22 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 52-28 victory over Hampden Academy in girls’ basketball action Friday.

The Vikings jumped out to an 18-5 lead in the first quarter. Crystal West contributed nine points on three treys for Oxford Hills.

Erin Murphy was the leading scorer for the Broncos with nine points on three field goals, including two 3-pointers.

Rangeley 66, GPC 14

RANGELEY — After sprinting out to a 27-point lead in the first frame, Rangeley cruised to a 66-14 romp over Greater Portland Christian in girls’ basketball action Friday.

Taylor Esty led the Lakers (15-1) with 21 points, while Maddi Egan chipped in with 12. Blake Morin and Seve Deery-Deraps also contributed with nine points each in a well-balanced attack.

Erin Robinson led GPC (5-11) with seven points. Ashlee Dawson added five.

Gray-New Gloucester 61, Kennebunk 33

GRAY — Gray-New Gloucester overpowered their oppoent from the initial whistle, building a 36-18 lead in the first half and rolling to a 61-33 victory over Kennebunk Friday.

Maria Valente and Stephanie Greaton led the Patriots (9-7) with 15 points each, while Alicia Dumont chipped in with eight.

Kennebunk (0-16) was paced by Sierra Tarter with eight points, while Sarah Bradley added seven.

College Basketball

Wesleyan 76, Bates 70

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Bates College men’s basketball rallied from 14 points down in the final four minutes of regulation but fell to Wesleyan University in overtime, 76-70, on Friday night inside Silloway Gymnasium.

The Bobcats (10-8, 1-4 NESCAC) used an 18-4 run at the end of the second half to send the game into overtime tied at 62-62, but the Cardinals (8-10, 2-3 NESCAC) closed the extra session with a 12-3 spurt for the victory.

The Cardinals held a 58-44 lead with 4:30 remaining in regulation after capping a 12-2 run. From there the Bobcats worked their way back into the game pulling within 62-56 with just over two minutes left in the half.

Sophomore Mike Boornazian then hit three free throws after inducing a foul on a 3-point attempt, and junior Adam Philpott sank a 3-pointer from the left corner with 51 seconds left to tie the contest. On the final possession of regulation, a jump shot from Hampden native Graham Safford bounced off the rim.
