NORWAY — From sponsoring a middle-eastern musical performance to chocolate-tasting events to purchasing video and audiobooks, the Friends of the Norway Memorial Library have been working for more than a quarter of a century to improve the library’s resources.

Now they are looking for new volunteers.

“The Friends organized in 1987 and have been in continuous operation for the library since,” said former Library Director and Friends member Ann Siekman.

Those interested in becoming involved are invited to an informal meeting at the library on Thursday morning, February 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Coffee and muffins will be served.

Current board members, including Siekman, Lynette Gatchell-Seames, Pat Jillson and Marilyn Eaton, along with the Library Director Beth Kane and Reference Librarian Julia Hoisington, will be available during the coffee to talk about the volunteer opportunities with the group.

In a statement released this week, Siekman said the Friends will talk about some of their activities, including the annual book sale, the annual chocolate event and holiday party, as well as creating posters and flyers for programs and generating ideas for new programs and activities.

Siekman said there are also officer positions and committee chair positions opening up on the board.

According to information from the Friends of the Norway Memorial Library, the group works in partnership with the Board of Trustees and the library staff to support a broad range of social and educational opportunities intended to promote a spirit of lifelong learning. 

The Friends raise funds through membership fees and fundraising efforts to support and enhance the library’s programs and resources. They also assist with library programs and activities.

Anyone who is interested in attending the meeting should call Julia at the library at 207-743-5309, ext. 1, by Feb. 5.
