1947 – 2014
TAMPA, Fla. — William ‘Bill’ O’Donnell, 66, died on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
Bill was born in Nova Scotia on Dec. 29, 1947, a son of Cyril and Catherine (Poirier) O’Donnell. The family moved to Bangor when Bill was 2 years old. He was educated in Bangor schools and graduated in 1966.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1970 during the Vietnam War. Bill was very proud of his time in the service.
Bill worked in the Rumford School Department as a bus driver for many years, and also taught driver’s education on a part-time basis.
His passion was riding his Harley Davidson. In his younger days, he belonged to the Exiles motorcycle club. He also belonged to the Combat Veterans’ Motorcycle Association and the American Legion Riders. His most memorable time was the trip he took to Arlington National Cemetery with a group of his veterans for Wreaths Across America.
He is survived by his wife, Terry Comeau of Saco; his brother, Robert O’Donnell and partner, Ruth, of Charlotte; a stepsister, Rena Heatly and family of Spring, Texas; and many cousins and relatives in Nova Scotia.
He is predeceased by both his parents, Catherine and Cyril.
