RUMFORD — To help the Greater Rumford Community Center pay its heating bill, volunteers will hold a Redneck Camo Party on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the 49 Franklin Reception Hall, 49 Franklin St.
The party is from 8 p.m. to midnight, Scot Grassette, co-owner of 49 Franklin, said Tuesday.
“The intense cold spell this winter has been tough on the heating bill and funds are badly needed,” he said.
Last year at town meeting, voters defeated the center’s funding requests. Since then, Grassette said volunteers have been “working hard to organize fundraisers for the popular activity center.”
The GRCC is at 50 Congress St.
Grassette will volunteer his skills as a disc jockey and provide favorite country, classic, rock ‘n’ roll music. He will also “take requests of any song that will help you whoop it up.”
Participants are asked to wear their favorite camouflage gear. 49 Franklin will provide a Friday Night Live III DVD for the People’s Choice “Redneck of the Night” award.
Friday Night Live is Rumford’s very popular 90-minute takeoff on NBC’s long-running series “Saturday Night Live.”
“Whoever comes dressed in a lot of camo will win a Friday Night Live DVD,” Grassette said.
The dance is for age 21 and older. Doors open at 7 p.m. to start the Chinese Auction and sell 50/50 raffle tickets.
Special advance tickets are $10 and are available at www.49franklin.com, Trendsetters and Greater Rumford Community Center desk. Tickets will be $12 at the door.
