NEWRY — A woman was seriously injured Wednesday while skiing at Sunday River Ski Resort, a spokeswoman said.

The 56-year-old skier was carried down the mountain by ski patrol and flown by LifeFlight helicopter to a hospital, resort spokeswoman Darcy Morse said.

Morse said she did not know the woman’s identity.

The woman had been skiing on White Heat, an expert trail, when she skied onto a section that hadn’t been groomed and fell, Morse said. Ski patrol members saw her from the chairlift and responded immediately at about 11 a.m. The woman was found bleeding and unconscious, the spokeswoman said.
