AUBURN — City and ice arena officials will host the official grand opening of Norway Savings Bank Arena on Saturday, Jan. 25, with an open house, food and plenty of hockey.

The first rink and the ground floor opened in November and crews have since been working to finish construction of the second-floor viewing area and the smaller rink.

“It’s time to celebrate the accomplishments of construction and enjoy the future of hockey in this community,” arena General Manager Josh MacDonald said in a written statement.

The arena will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 25. Visitors can tour the facility, watch youth hockey games and practice sessions and win prizes. Staff will pass out hot chocolate, cookies and register visitors to win door prizes.

Norway Savings Bank President Patricia Weigel will cut the opening ribbon at 5:30 p.m., in time for the 6 p.m. Brunswick versus Red Hornets high school girls’ hockey game.

The rink will open from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday for free skating and rentals.

The rink is off of Turner Street just north of the Auburn Mall.
