MEXICO – The Police Department will hold its second meeting on the neighborhood watch program at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Interim police Chief Roy Hodsdon said the first meeting Dec. 3 at the Police Department was during a time “when a lot of people were on vacation, or were away for the holidays.

“We decided to schedule a second meet-and-greet for people, after receiving some requests for one,” Hodsdon said. “People who showed up for the first one are welcome to come again, and those who couldn’t make it the first time and see what we’re planning on doing.”

Hodsdon said the idea for the program came from reserve police officer Cam Barrieau.

“Cam came up to me last spring, around the time the burglaries in town were increasing, and proposed the idea of a neighborhood watch for our town, and I told him that I thought it’d be a great idea,” Hodsdon said. “It’s always been in the back of our mind as something we should do.”

The plan is to focus on two or three areas, though Hodsdon said if the community has a certain area they want officers and the Mexico Explorers to focus on, they’ll listen.
