AUGUSTA — U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud’s campaign says the Democratic candidate has raised more than $1 million in his bid to become Maine governor.

The campaign said Monday that it raised almost $700,000 in the last half of 2013. That’s on top of the $313,000 it raised last June.

Michaud’s campaign says no other privately financed candidate has raised that much from so many donors this early in a gubernatorial race. It says donations have come from more than 3,700 donors and that 45 percent of those gave $50 or less.

Campaign fundraising reports must be filed by midnight Jan. 15. Neither Republican governor nor independent candidate Eliot Cutler has filed reports yet.

Cutler announced last week he wouldn’t accept any donations from political action committees.
