PORTLAND (AP) — Tired travelers over the holidays will be able to get free coffee at Maine Turnpike Service Plazas to help them stay awake on the road.

Free coffee will be available at all five service plazas from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. overnight on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day.

The Maine Turnpike Authority is encouraging people driving overnight to take breaks to help them stay alert.

It’s expecting about 250,000 toll transactions over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and another 275,000 over the New Year’s holiday.
