Firefighters put out a fire after a hot tub malfunctioned late Friday morning and destroyed it at a residence on Cohoon Road, off Route 41 near the New Sharon line, Chesterville fire Chief Edward Hastings IV said. The tub was on a wooden platform about 20 feet from the house, he said. About 15 firefighters responded to the residence from Chesterville and Farmington. It was reported as a structure fire with flames showing. Other mutual aid departments were turned back once firefighters arrived on the scene, Hastings said.
