Time is running out for nominations for the 2013 Gaziano Memorial Offensive and Defensive Lineman Awards for Maine high school football.
The deadline for nominations is 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. The awards are given out annually to the top senior offensive and defensive linemen in the state based on the candidates’ hard work on the field, in the classroom and in their communities.
To qualify, an applicant must be a high school senior, have competed at the varsity level for a minimum of two years and have an exemplary record of positive athletic and non-athletic citizenship. Applicants are also required to submit a student essay and a game film of him competing against his two toughest competitors.
Applicants from all four classes are eligible and must be nominated by their coach. A committee of current and former football coaches selects one offensive and one defensive lineman each year, with the winners each receiving a $5,000 scholarship and a trophy. Four runners-up each receive a $1,000 scholarship and a trophy.
Winners will be announced at a luncheon on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Augusta Civic Center.
