Historical Society Christmas party

PARIS — The Paris Cape Historical Society will hold a Christmas party at the home of Cynthia Immonen, 43 Mountain View Drive, South Paris, on Thursday, Dec. 5.

This will be a potluck supper with entertainment to follow. Bring a salad, casserole or dessert. It would be helpful if you call Cynthia at 207-743-2384 to let her know what you plan to bring.

Following the supper Cynthia will tell a story about Christmas trees around the world, with illustrations, as well as a Christmas carol story.

The museum has closed for the winter. The first meeting of 2014 will be in April and Thursday open houses will commence in May.

We have many suggestions for Christmas gifts that reflect the history of South Paris. Contact the group for more information. The latest offering is a disc of Norway Pine Grove Cemetery, showing the location of all the graves therein.

Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair

BUCKFIELD — The Nezinscot Valley Holiday Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Buckfield High School, 160 Morrill St.

There will be 100 local crafter and vendor booths.

Photos with Santa begin at 10 a.m.

Lunch items for sale include hot dogs, corn chowder, Italian sandwiches and fried dough.

Live musical performances will be held throughout the day.

The fair is hosted by the Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters.

Cash Mob set for Dec. 7

OXFORD — The next Cash Mob will be held Saturday, Dec. 7. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the Welchville Junction parking lot, Route 26 and 121. Each person should bring $20.

A Cash Mob is a flash mob with a buy-local, community-oriented twist.

Fair in memory of ‘Ruthie’

PARIS — A Christmas fair at First Baptist Church of Paris will be held from 9 a.m. to noon

Saturday, Dec. 7, in Cummings Hall at 500 Paris Hill Road.

In memory of “Ruthie” Rawson, who passed away this year, the church invites the public to a very special fair which includes Ruthie’s vast collection of Christmas items.

Included in the sale will be new, like-new and collectible items ideal for Christmas gift giving. Items from several other folks will also be included.

One of the highlights of the Christmas Fair will be the silent auction of a 7-foot tall, vintage Santa valued at more than $1000. The proceeds from the sale of this piece will support the Senior Social Center which meets every Monday at 11 a.m. for food, fun and visiting.

There will be free cookies and coffee for those attending.

Caroling on the common

WATERFORD — All are invited to join in singing carols around the Christmas tree on the common at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.

Caroling will be followed by hot cocoa and cookies in the library across the street. Santa Claus has promised to drop by to visit with the little ones.

Fire Auxiliary plans craft fair

WEST PARIS — West Paris Fireman’s Auxiliary will hold its holiday craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the West Paris Agnes Gray School.

Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

Christmas carol sing-a-long

BRYANT POND — A Christmas carol sing-a-long will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Whitman Memorial Library.

Jim Burke, a retired SAD 17 teacher and organist at the First Universalist Church of West Paris, will lead participants with his keyboard. Refreshments will be a bit more lavish than usual.

The program is open to the public at no charge and all ages are welcome.

Libby, Mason Family Christmas Concert

HARTFORD — The Libby and Mason Family Christmas Concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Hartford Community Church, Church Street.

A total of 15 performers from these well-known and talented families will perform the old and new Christmas arrangements. The event will feature voices, guitar, piano and much more.

Free-will donations will be gladly accepted at the door. Refreshments will be served at intermission.

Honey Bee Club holiday party

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club will hold its potluck holiday party at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

The public is invited to the Jan. 11 meeting for a preview of the club’s new programs.

Shelter plans holiday open house

PARIS — A holiday open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15, Responsible Pet Care Shelter & Adoption, 9 Swallow Road, off High Street, across from Paris Elementary.

There will be door prizes, raffles and refreshments.

Community Choir Christmas Cantata

LOCKE MILLS — The annual Christmas Cantata, “Lead Me Back to Bethlehem,” will be performed by the Community Choir from area churches and directed by Beverly Melville at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Locke Mills Union Church.

Sunday Evening Christmas Celebration

OXFORD — The annual Hosanna Church Sunday Evening Christmas Celebration will be held Sunday, Dec. 15. This year’s theme is Cookies and Carols.

Doors will be open by 6 p.m. as attendees gather and visit over cookies, hot cocoa and other hot drinks.

The evening will feature special music by various fine musicians, singing by everyone of favorite requested carols, enjoying homemade Christmas treats, and selected inspiring readings.

Duplicate Bridge Club

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Nov. 29 in the rec. hall, where a 4 1/2 table Howell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (Gray) 73 percent game; second, Rick Verrill (Gorham) and Fred Letourneau (Winslow); third, Bill Clifford Jr. and Cynthia Clifford, who also were first in flight B; fourth, Pat and Mike Quinn (Otisfield).

Second in flight B were Cathy Sanderson (Raymond) and Carol Curran (Waterford); third, Hazel Glazier (Norway) and Nancy Farmer (Norway); fourth, Jim Krainin (Naples) and Milt McKeen Jr. (Bridgton).
