BERWICK (AP) — A Berwick man already on Maine’s sex offender registry has been charged with trying to lure two fifth-grade girls into his vehicle by offering them candy.
Police said 23-year-old Kevin Weeden faces charges of solicitation of a child to commit a prohibited act, failure to register as a sex offender and prohibited contact with a minor for allegedly trying to lure the girls waiting at bus stops just minutes apart on Tuesday morning.
Both girls refused the offer and reported the incidents. Police tracked down Weeden at his home. He is being held on $25,000 bail. It was not clear if he had a lawyer.
Maine’s sex offender registry lists Weeden as an out-of-state registrant convicted of indecent liberties with a minor by a U.S. Army court martial in Virginia.
