Leavitt Area High School center and linebacker Levi Morin has been named one of the 12 semifinalists for the 43rd annual Fitzpatrick Trophy, presented each year to an outstanding senior football player.
Morin helped Leavitt (11-0) to its sixth state championship overall and its fourth undefeated season since 1995.
The Hornets routed the Winslow Black Raiders, 48-21, in the Class C title game.
Each of the 76 football schools in the state is given a chance to nominate one player for the award. A committee chooses the semifinalists, who are then submitted to coaches and media for a vote that will reduce the field to three finalists.
Morin was the only tri-county player on the semifinal list. Seven are Class A players and nine hail from Cumberland or York County.
Other candidates are Teagan Candage, Mt. Desert Island; Corey Creeger, Biddeford; Nicco DeLorenzo, Kennebunk; Ben Greenberg, Scarborough; Kyle Heath, Westbrook; Ben Lucas, Cony; Cody Lynn, Thornton Academy; Cody O’Brien, Cheverus; Duncan Preston, South Portland; Jedediah Scott, Sanford and Justin Zukowski, Portland.
Candidates must be seniors, and criteria for the award includes accomplishments on the field and in the classroom and community.
Finalists are expected to be announced by Dec. 22, with the banquet to be held Jan. 19 at Holiday Inn By The Bay in Portland.
