UPDATE: Messier weather expected tonight

RUMFORD — Winter parking bans will likely go into effect Tuesday night in Rumford and Mexico due to expected snowfall.

Both towns start their seasonal bans with either the first plowable snowstorm or Dec. 1, whichever comes first.

In Rumford, winter parking on any public street or right of way between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. is illegal if it interferes with the removal of snow, according to a news release Tuesday from Town Manager Carlo Puiia.

Parking is allowed for up to two hours during that time, provided there is no interference with snow removal. Any vehicle found violating the ordinance will be towed at the owner’s expense.

In Mexico, there is no parking on any street or road in town between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. The parking ban will be in effect until April 20, 2014. Any vehicle in violation will be towed at the owner’s expense.

It is also unlawful to plow or cause to be deposited any snow or large bodies of ice in any street, lane, fire hydrant or public square of the town, Mexico selectmen said in a recent news release.
