I am so tired of of reading about and seeing all the freebies being given to Lewiston’s newest immigrants — free or low-cost housing, medical care, education and everything else under the sun.
My grandparents came to the United States from Canada some 80 or so years ago. They had to have a sponsor who was responsible for them. There were no freebies. It was work, pay your own way or go home.
Now, the state’s welfare and MaineCare systems are overwhelmed and broke.
We have our own citizens/veterans who can’t get the help they need.
Take care of our own first.
