OLD TOWN — A New Gloucester woman is facing multiple charges after a police pursuit through two towns Thursday evening.
Old Town police Sgt. Lee Miller attempted to stop Casey Bernardini, 25, for speeding on Stillwater Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. when she took off, according to Sgt. Michael Hashey.
Hashey said Bernardini indicated she was going to pull over by putting her turn signal on, but she took off.
The pursuit went down Stillwater Avenue before turning onto College Avenue, the sergeant said. Bernardini, who was carrying three passengers, was traveling at a high rate of speed, exceeding posted speed limits by over 30 miles per hour.
The speed limit on College Avenue is 25 miles per hour.
After the pursuit crossed into Orono, a unit from that town was waiting for Bernardini with spike strips at the end of College Avenue, according to Hashey. The spike mat worked, flattening the tires on Bernardini’s rental vehicle, which police later learned was overdue.
Bernardini turned right onto Park Street after being spiked, and she stopped the vehicle near the Bennoch Road intersection, Hashey said. It was there where she was taken into custody.
The three passengers were not charged, Hashey said. The pursuit lasted about 2 and a half miles.
Upon searching Bernardini, officers found an undisclosed amount of crystal meth in her purse, the sergeant said.
Bernardini was brought to Penobscot County Jail and charged with possession of a Schedule W drug, eluding a police officer, violation of condition of release and criminal speeding.
She remained behind bars Friday morning.
