RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. — In their second game in less than 24 hours, Central Maine Community College took on the Knights of VTC in a YSCC matchup Sunday.

Early foul trouble again plagued the Mustangs in the first half, but their tempo, pressure and depth was simply too much for VTC as CMCC took home a 108-72 victory in a women’s basketball game.

Ten Mustangs found the scoring column in the first half, including Gabby Foy with 14, Lexi Larson with 9, and Hannah Champagne and Maggie McConkey with 7 apiece. At the break, CM led 56-32.

In the second half, CM continued to push the temp and blew the game open. Foy finished with a game-high 26 points, followed by Susie French with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Hannah Champagne finished with a career-high 15 points and Lexi Larson struck from deep three times and finished with 13 points. Jasmine Ramos played a great floor game, finishing with 8 points and nine rebounds. Paige Wells led VTC with 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Bates 75, UMF 54

LEWISTON — Sophomore Mike Boornazian scored a game-high 21 points to lead Bates College men’s basketball past the University of Maine at Farmington, 75-54, in Alumni Gym on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Bates Tip Off Round Robin.

The Bobcats (2-0) never trailed in the game and held a lead as large as 24 points late in the second half against the Beavers (1-1). Bates defeated UMF after dropping the previous two meetings to Farmington.

Boornazian paced the Bobcats in scoring for the second time in as many games, shooting 9-of-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc while also grabbing eight rebounds. Junior Graham Safford) — the only other double-figure scorer for Bates — totaled 12 points, a career-high eight assists and six rebounds.

CMCC 97, VTC 91

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. — Plagued by constant whistles and foul trouble in the first half, it took Centeral Maine Community College 30 minutes and intense ball pressure to put away the Vermont Tech Knights 97-91 in a men’s basketball game Sunday.

Down 49-45 at the half, the Mustangs fell into a deeper hole, falling behind 73-62 at the 10-minute mark in the second half.

But constant ball pressure and a slick half-court trap turned the tide and CM took the lead with 4:33 on the clock. Luis Medina (for the second day in a row) led CM scoring with 20 points, followed by Kazre Cumming and Carrington Miller, who added 13 points apiece. The win increased the Mustangs to an 8-0 USCAA record.

Cross country

Cullenberg selected

ORONO — Senior Kelton Cullenberg, a Mt. Blue High School graduate, had his season extended on Saturday afternoon as the NCAA announced the cross country championship field. Cullenberg who has been one of the Northeast’s top runners this season had that confirmed as he was selected as a Northeast at-large selection. The championship is slated for Nov. 23 in Terre Haute Ind.

Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their region.

Cullenberg finished 17th overall at the Northeast Regional last Friday as he came up with his career-best time in the 10k with a mark of 30:35.7, topping his previous best of 31:41.3 that he ran at last year’s NCAA regional.

Bates receives bid

INDIANAPOLIS — The Bates men’s cross country team received its third consecutive at-large team bid to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, it was announced Sunday by the Division III Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee.

The Bobcats were one of six teams from the New England Region who will compete at nationals this Saturday, Nov. 23, in Hanover, Ind. The men’s race begins at 12:30pm, after the 11 a.m. women’s race.

The Bates women’s cross country team, which finished sixth yesterday at regionals, was the first team left out by the committee, but will be represented on an individual basis by senior Kallie Nixon, who placed 11th yesterday.

Bates’ selection is based on its fifth-place showing at yesterday’s New England Regional Championships in Gorham. Middlebury and Williams received automatic bids for finishing 1-2, while Colby, MIT and Tufts also received at-large bids.in addition to Bates.

Two-time All-American and senior captain Tully Hannan will look for his third All-America honor while the Bobcats seek another top-10 national finish. Bates placed seventh in 2011 and sixth in 2012.

Hannan covered the 8-kilometer course in 24:47.80, 0.79 ahead of seventh-place Matt Deyo of MIT, and sixth fastest among 366 individuals. Senior captain Michael Martin and junior John Stansel also earned all-region honors (top 35), placing 21st and 24th overall, respectively. Martin finished in 25:16.71, Stansel in 25:18.62.

Senior captain Noah Graboys placed 38th in 25:34.90. Sophomore Gregg Heller took 69th in 26:13.87, and first-year Joe Doyle was 100th in 26:45.29, making all four classes represented among Bates’ first six. Junior Camden Black-Ingersoll finished 110th in 26:57.08.as Bates’ second displacer.
