LEWISTON —  Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice has announced that five people completed the bereavement volunteer training class in October and four people completed the general volunteer training class in November.

The newest members of the AHCH volunteer team include Leo Savard, Lewiston; Helen Incze, Lewiston; Beverly Robinson, West Paris; Mary Fournier-Austin, Auburn; Sherry Swasey, Sabattus; Fred Jordan, Poland; Julie Ouellette, Lewiston; Linda Keene, Turner; Karen Labonte, Durham and Beth McIntyre, West Paris.

“When I became a volunteer, I never realized what a big impact it would have on my life,” states Bob Oliver, volunteer. “I started to look at life through the eyes of the caregiver and patient. I then realized just how much a couple of hours of my time were worth to someone else. I love this work.”

Volunteer opportunities include visiting patients on home care or hospice services, providing respite for caregivers, bereavement support and facilitating grief groups, Hospice House greeters, patient support and kitchen work, grocery shopping and medication pick-up, transportation, office work. Volunteers specializing in complementary therapies such as pet therapy, Reiki, massage, music and art are also welcome.

General volunteer training will be offered Thursday, Nov. 21, Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 19, at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Lewiston Office, 15 Strawberry Ave. All classes are from 9 a.m. to 3:30  p.m.

The next hospice volunteer training will begin Monday, Jan. 13, at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Lewiston Office.

Program for Grieving Children & Teens volunteer training will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 19, and Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Lewiston office.
