DIXFIELD — The RSU 10 board has approved creation of two new committees.

Superintendent Craig King said the Buildings and Grounds Committee will review and make recommendations about facilities, maintenance, budgets and other  matters.

Board members Brad Gallant of Rumford, Betty Barrett of Mexico, Denise Cross of Roxbury and Lolisa Windover of Peru will serve on the committee. Also serving are Kenny Robbins, director of Buildings and Grounds, Jonathan Chalmers, assistant director of Buildings and Grounds, Mary Dailey, business manager, Jerry Wiley, RSU 10 board chairman, and King.

The Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee will be headed by Assistant Superintendent/Curriculum Coordinator Gloria Jenkins. Board members serving are Michelle Casey of Buckfield, David Lynch of Sumner, Barbara Chow of Dixfield and Bruce Ross of Dixfield. Other members are a high school principal, a middle school principal and and elementary school principal.

Jenkins said among the issues to be discussed are continuing to bring the curricula of the three former school administrative districts together and adoption of proficiency-based education to meet the state’s graduation law.

RSU 10 was formed by former SADs 21, 39 and 43.

In other matters, the district was notified it will receive $48,000 of the $250,000 state subsidy that was eliminated. The money will pay for educational technician Sarah Bolduc, who had been laid off, as well as training and other needs.

The board also discussed the possibility of buying a small section of the former SAD 43 central office building in Mexico where the RSU 10 tower that houses the district’s Internet server is located.

Buildings and Grounds Director Kenny Robbins is discussing the issue with the Mexico Board of Selectmen.

King said work may begin on the 2014-15 operating budget at the Nov. 25 board meeting at Dirigo Middle School in Dixfield or at the Dec. 9 meeting at the Pennacook Learning Center in Rumford.
