BATH — Police on Thursday identified a 65-year-old Phippsburg man as the driver who died Wednesday evening in a dramatic single-car crash on High Street in Bath.
Paul Hurd likely suffered a medical incident that caused his 2012 Toyota Camry to leave the road and crash into a tree in the driveway at 462 High St., according to a release from Bath police Lt. Robert Savary. Hurd was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Bath police and rescue crews went just after 6 p.m. Wednesday to the area and found the Camry in the tree. Hurd was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence indicates Hurd was traveling south on High Street, veered off the road, continued up a small hill and crashed into a parked car in the driveway.
Police say there is no evidence at this point that alcohol or drug use were factors in the crash.
Evidence indicates that Hurd took no evasive maneuvers prior to the crash.
The state medical office will examine the body to determine a cause of death.
