AUGUSTA (AP) — The former treasurer of a Maine high school wrestling team’s booster club has pleaded not guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from the organization.

Prosecutors said 41-year-old Wendi Willette of Winslow stole between $10,000 and $30,000 from the Winslow High School Wrestling Booster Club.

The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/HMjVNW ) reported that Willette also asked for a court-appointed attorney at an appearance Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court in Augusta.

Willette is due back in court Dec. 10.

Police said Willette was charged with felony theft on October after a monthlong investigation that began when boosters’ club members reported they suspected Willette had stolen the money.

Willette could not be reached for comment.
