LEWISTON — The Lewiston Farmers’ Market will open again for the winter season Thursday, Nov. 21, just in time to pick up some fresh local goodies for Thanksgiving. The market will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center at 208 Bates St. and will be held every third Thursday of the month thereafter, November through April.
Much like the summer market, the Lewiston Winter Market offers a festive and family-friendly atmosphere with an average of 25 vendors offering seasonal fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, artisan cheese, fresh bread, baked goods, live lobsters and other seafood, prepared meals, fiber arts, hand-crafted soaps, herbal products, pottery, cut flowers and more.
In addition to a wide selection of Maine-produced goods, market-goers can also enjoy a delicious and affordable meal from the Winter Market Café. This year, proceeds from the café will go in part to the Lots to Gardens Youth Campaign Crew. The Youth Campaign Crew is a group of eight teenagers from the Lewiston area who are developing and running a year-round campaign that engages youth, children and school administrators in working toward increasing the consumption of healthy food in schools. Crew members will help prepare and serve café meals.
Market-goers can also enjoy live and local music from Turner Templeton, an electric Americana-style duo based in western Maine.
The Lewiston Farmers’ Market accepts credit and debit cards, as well as SNAP. The market will be continuing its popular Fresh Food Champion program for the winter, helping SNAP and WIC recipients stretch their food dollar, as well as the Market Rewards program, which rewards regular customers for their loyalty.
