Prep for skiing, snow boarding

LEWISTON — Dr. Bruce Hamilton-Dick, medical director of sports medicine at St. Mary’s Center for Orthopaedics, and athletic trainer Jeff Eckhouse will hold a small group training session in advance of ski and snow boarding season.

Participants will be doing floor exercise activities, so wear something comfortable and appropriate gym shoes.

Two sessions will be held at the Lepage Conference Center at 99 Campus Ave. on Wednesday, Nov. 20. The beginners’ session will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A session for individuals with more experience will be held from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Each session is limited to 10.

Holly Fair, chowder lunch

GRAY — First Congregational Church of Gray will hold their annual Holly Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Parish House (behind McDonald’s) in Gray Center.

There will be handmade gifts, Cabot’s Private Stock cheddar, fudge, freshly made wreaths, baked goods, the Cookie Trail and Rada knives.

Children can attend a movie and cookie decorating while parents shop. Early shoppers can enjoy Thompson’s doughnuts and coffee.

Lunch will be haddock chowder, corn chowder and a variety of sandwiches all made by Women’s Fellowship.

‘Money in Politics’ talk at Auburn UU

AUBURN — Auburn UU will present a topical talk at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24. BJ McCollister will discuss “Money in Politics: Democracy’s Crisis in Confidence.”

McCollister, program director for Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, has an extensive background in political campaigns and issue advocacy organizations. Working as the Southern Maine Field Director for State Senate races in 2010, McCollister witnessed firsthand the pervasive role money plays in politics. After attending and organizing fundraisers with high-profile lobbyists and organizations, he concluded that government needs to be accountable to the people, not donors.

The Social Justice committee at Auburn UU is sponsoring this talk, which tells how Americans are coming together to take back democracy and what Maine citizens can do to help.
