HOULTON — A southern Aroostook man who allegedly amassed more than $10,000 worth of tools during a burglary spree in Littleton overnight was arrested on Friday by the Houlton Police Department.

Houlton Police Officer Theron Bickford said Friday that Jesse Sawyer, 31, of Linneus was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m., after a U.S. Border Patrol officer spotted Sawyer speeding on the Foxcroft Road.

After being alerted, Bickford said that he tried to pull over a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Sawyer, but that Sawyer failed to stop. Sawyer ran a stop sign at an intersection and then traveled up Military Street, according to Bickford, before traveling through a store parking lot and across a lawn, then ditching the vehicle.

At that point, Sawyer fled into the woods, where he was apprehended by the officer.

Bickford said that the vehicle Sawyer was driving was “loaded with tons and tons” of tools that were allegedly stolen overnight during a series of burglaries that are now being investigated by Maine State Police.

Sawyer was charged with operating while license suspended or revoked, eluding an officer, refusing to submit to arrest, theft by receiving stolen property and violating conditions of release.

Sawyer was one of three people arrested on drug trafficking charges in Ellsworth last month after local police found a suspected mobile methamphetamine lab in a High Street parking lot. He was charged with a felony count of trafficking in drugs.
